Over time, extreme weather, wildfires, and vandalism destroyed these huts, leaving them in ruins for over half a century. By 2004, the Mountain Huts Preservation Society had rebuilt two of the huts – Ironstone Hut and Lady Lake Hut – and aimed to reconstruct the third, Sandy Lake Hut, to complete the trilogy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"814\" data-end=\"1392\"\u003eThe original Sandy Lake Hut, dating from 1903, was submerged under Lake Mackenzie after the Hydro Electric Commission's 1969 Mersey Forth power scheme. In 2012, the MHPS identified a new site for the hut on the northeastern shore of Lake Mackenzie. In January 2013, the original hut's foundations were exposed, allowing accurate measurements.
