About Solitary Mans Hut, the bottle’s namesake
Masterfully hidden in the Walls of Jerusalem National Park, the Solitary Mans Hut was built in the mid-1980s by an enigmatic, extremely fit man in his late thirties, whose identity is known only to a few. He challenged himself to build and live in a mountain hut, enduring the harsh conditions and isolation. The hut is set on a stone foundation with an A-frame of saplings supporting green aluminium cladding, camouflaged so well that walkers can come within meters without seeing it. Nearby, a weightlifting bench made from locally gathered stone attests to his fitness.
The Solitary Man lived in the hut for about 18 months, only leaving to replenish supplies or compete in marathons. When bushwalkers accidentally discovered the hut, he returned to urban living but left a journal inviting others to use the hut, provided they kept it neat, clean, and respected the surroundings.
